After his retirement, Mr. Alm began making fishing lures as a hobby, but the hobby became a small business as the lures became
popular with fishermen all over northeast Iowa and Wisconsin sportsmen who fished the Mississippi. Orders also were sold in
Minnesota and as far west as Clear Lake. Lures were also sold in Florida.
Funeral services for Mr. Alm were held Thursday, Feb 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. The Rev. E. W. Lechtenberg
gave the funeral mass. Burial was in St. Benedict’s Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Michael Book. James L. Alm,

Mary Elizabeth Allen was born January 22, 1895, in Winneshiek County, the daughter of Fred and Barbara (Kobriger) Allen. She was
five years old when she moved to Decorah with her widowed mother and three older sisters. She attended Immaculate Conception
Academy through the eighth grade and graduated form Decorah Senior High.
She attended Valders Business College in Decorah, graduating in June 1914. She was employed at the Williston State Bank in

She married Loyal Alm December 1, 1915, at Glasgow, Mont. The couple resided in Miles City, Mont., for almost two years,
returning to Decorah where they lived until their deaths.
Mrs. Alm was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and the Rosary Society, serving as president in 1948. She was also a
member of Col. Hughes Women’s Relief Corps No. 58 of Decorah. She joined the order in March 1937, and was a dedicated worker
as long as she was physically able.
She held many offices in the local corps, including that of president for five years. She was also active in the Department of Iowa W.
    R. C., holding the offices of senior aide patriot instructor, chaplain, inspector, and senior vice-president. She attended the department
convention at Sioux City, Iowa, in 1958, and was elected department president.
She was active in patriotic work, child welfare and projects for the four veteran’s hospitals in Iowa. Her success in the department and
at the local level brought recognition and honors to the local corps, which at that time was the largest in Iowa.
The local corps disbanded in 1985, but Mrs. Alm transferred her membership to the Griffith Relief Corps No 281 of Oelwein.
